Everyone needs an opportunity to re-center themselves. Life feels like a big box holding your most important possessions and ideas has just been shaken and flipped upside down, round and round. You know everything you need is in that box. You just wish you had a minute to organize it and set things back upright. With all that’s going on in my life, I knew I needed to some grounding, some setting upright. I consider myself both spiritual and religious (not afraid to label myself as the latter), but I’m learning to be more mindful. I believe mindfulness and spirituality are related as you cannot be mindful without allowing your spirit to take over. And conversely, spirituality requires you to consciously acknowledge your inner voice – your mind.
One of the best ways to tap into your Chi, or inner spirit, inner voice, consciousness, is the practice of yoga. I’m a neo-yogi. I’m trying my best to make yoga a regular part of my life. I love how it makes me feel afterwards, but I’m still not very good during the session. I find myself panting and sometimes I even get lightheaded. Let’s not talk about my non-existent flexiblity nor my balance. In due time. I will keep trying.
Last weekend, Wanderlust came to Charlotte and I knew I couldn’t miss it. I invited my prego friend along. She couldn’t do most of the downward dogs and cobras, but she was great support to me after the first 45minute mark had past. Let’s face it, I could barely do the downward dogs either. Child’s pose is my fave. lol. Wunderlust is “The World’s Only Mindful Triathlon. It’s a field day for your mind, body and soul.” A full day of running, yoga, and meditation. That’s pretty much all of your grounding necessities. It was so much fun. There was even a dance party.
